Former Helmut Newton muse, actress and model Jo Champa has been hired to bring some red-carpet flash and gossip to Vogue Italia and L’Uomo Vogue. Champa, who famously posed with a pistol in her mouth in one of Newton’s most iconic photographs, will report on the celebrity scene from her base in Los Angeles as a contributing editor. She’ll start with an interview with Michelle Obama in this month’s issue of Vogue Italia.
“[Vogue Italia and L’Uomo Vogue editor in chief] Franca [Sozzani] is not only a great friend, but also an amazing and stimulating visionary, and I am sure we will find many interesting stories to tell,” Champa said. “Jo adores fashion and she loves looking for that very special piece that makes the difference when she makes her entrance at a party, or walks down the red carpet on Oscar night. In a world made of appearances, and fashion victims, what distinguishes Jo is really her uniqueness. And in that sense, I believe she will give just the right contribution to our magazine,” Sozzani said.
