COVER STORY: Karl Lagerfeld shot the gatefold cover of L’Officiel’s October issue, which features cast members from the film “Opium,” including Farida Khelfa, Audrey Marnay, Marisa Berenson and Arielle Dombasle.
Vincent Darré, the fashion designer-turned-interiors-maven who was tapped earlier this year to be “curator” of L’Officiel, was the artistic director of the small-budget musical film about artist Jean Cocteau, set in Paris in the Twenties, while Dombasle directed it. The movie will be released on Oct. 2 in France.

In the issue is a 20-page series shot by Lagerfeld, who was also interviewed. “Karl loves the period and knows a lot about it. It was the beginning of Cubism, the Russian ballets and so forth,” said Darré, who worked with Lagerfeld for 10 years at Fendi.
Pierre Bergé, who is the executor of Cocteau’s estate, is the subject of a separate profile in the issue.
The issue, which counts 377 pages including 100 advertising pages, is set to hit newsstands on Friday priced at 4.50 euros, or $6 at current exchange.
The October issue is the last one with Daphné Hézard as editor in chief. Hézard recently left to join Harper’s Bazaar France as fashion and lifestyle editor. The French version of the magazine is expected to launch between March and June.
