GENDER BENDING ADS: To drum up excitement about Fashion Forward, a fund-raiser that celebrates the fashion industry’s longstanding commitment to fighting the HIV/AIDS epidemic event, a public service announcement began airing this week on ABC. The gender-bending spots (which include 5-, 15- and 30-second versions) feature 11 well-known faces in the modeling world and were shot by Jonathan Turner and produced by Jason Farrer. The diversity of the casting was intended to showcase the social complexities and range of the LGBT community. The video features cameos by such models as Andrej Pejic, Jenny Shimizu, Crystal Renn and Travis Cannata, as well as Brazilian transgender model and Givenchy muse Lea T. The entire commercial collaboration, which took place at Milk Studios, was in-kind donations of time, valued at over $400,000.
A fund-raiser for the Gay Men’s Health Crisis, Fashion Forward is co-hosted by Brad Goreski and Tracee Ellis Ross, and encompasses a cocktail reception, auction and runway show. The event takes place Nov. 17 at the Metropolitan Pavilion and is sponsored by the Bank of America.
