GETTING THEIR MASTERS: Trey Laird was again behind this year’s CFDA journal, this time lining up photographer Willy Vanderperre and stylist Olivier Rizzo to capture Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs, Joseph Altuzarra and the 2014 CFDA Award winners and nominees. The black-and-white portraits are reminiscent of The Old Masters. In contrast, there are also some more relaxed fashion shots of models that are in color. “We tried to work with each model to show the character that is unique to them,” Laird said. Kätlin Aas, Jamie Bochert, Meghan Collison, Joan Smalls, Daria Strokous and Fei Fei Sun are among the models.
To try to ensure that guests have a lasting memory of the June 2 Lincoln Center gala, Laird recruited artist Aerosyn-Lex Mestrovic, whose hand-painted artwork and typography will be used in an assortment of different ways. His intricate graphics appear on the award show’s invitation and are interspersed in the awards journal, as well as in 30-second short films that will be projected on backdrops during the black-tie event.
