GLOBAL GLAM: Vogue Italia celebrates global, multicultural fashion society with its January issue, which hits newsstands worldwide today.
In keeping with editor in chief Franca Sozzani’s involvement as Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nation’s Fashion 4 Development project, the magazine is out to use the power of fashion to promote a positive message. Following campaigns already pushed by Vogue Italia — against anorexia and supporting the more consistent use of black models in fashion, for instance — the magazine’s latest issue aims to defeat lingering bias by showcasing the global, unique nature of fashion and beauty.

“Nowadays brands and trends have a global reach and are not tied to individual countries anymore,” said Sozzani, who together with her team selected a series of archival images by important photographers to highlight how fashion has always featured multiethnic and multicultural elements.
Fervent in her belief that “in this world, beauty is king and it’s something that brings people together with no national and racial limits,” Sozzani chose Chinese model Fei Fei Shun to appear on the issue’s cover, which was shot by Steven Meisel. “In the images, Fei Fei perfectly embodies a timeless idea of an extremely chic, beautiful woman,” Sozzani said.
