MEOW MIX: Katy Perry is feeling feline in her first fragrance ad. Shot by Miles Aldridge and featuring Perry in a purple and pink latex catsuit (complete with latex tail and black platform stilettos, not to mention an oversize hot pink ball of yarn), the image promotes Purr, the entertainer’s first scent. The imagery is intended to play off the cat-shaped bottle, which has jeweled eyes, metallic accents and lavender shading. Gigantic Parfums, Perry’s scent licensee, plans to use the visual in national print ads, regional billboard campaigns, new media and event-based programs in conjunction with the fragrance’s early November release. The first national print ads will break in January fashion, beauty and lifestyle magazines, and will add a logo and small bottle shot to the image; the visual itself will bow first in-store at Nordstrom in November.

THEY SHOULD EAT WELL: Former Gourmet editor in chief Ruth Reichl recently scored an editor at large job at Random House, but she hasn’t forgotten her old colleagues from Condé Nast. On Monday, Reichl will mark the one-year anniversary of the magazine’s closure with a party at her Upper West Side apartment. “Just about everyone is coming,” Reichl told WWD. For those still trying to guess who the next Bon Appétit editor in chief will be, this is the room to be in.

TOASTING SHRIVER: More Magazine’s Lesley Jane Seymour, Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel, Pamela Clarke Keogh and Jesse Kornbluth raised their Pimm’s Cups to Debra Shriver, chief communications officer at Hearst, on Wednesday afternoon at Michael’s to toast the publication of her first book, “Stealing Magnolias: Tales from a New Orleans Courtyard.” And while the bustling crowd at Michael’s ate their Cobb salads, Shriver’s gang was treated to a Louisiana crawfish salad and hot pralines for dessert. “I wrote this book on the weekends,” Shriver said. Later, a saxophonist from nearby Lincoln Center stopped by the table to play two standards, “Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans?” and “When the Saints Go Marching In.” Shriver will be feted again next week, by Hearst editorial director Ellen Levine and chairman Cathie Black, followed by a book signing at Rizzoli.
MICK’S MARK: All signs are pointing toward Mick Jagger as the first cover subject under Sally Singer’s reign as editor of T: The New York Times Style Magazine. The Rolling Stones front man will appear on the holiday issue, which comes out Dec. 5. Jagger’s turn on the cover marks a very different kind of approach to the title’s holiday issue, which under former editor Stefano Tonchi had actresses such as Penélope Cruz, Scarlett Johansson and Taylor Swift. The New York Observer recently speculated that Jagger could be on the cover. A New York Times spokeswoman confirmed Jagger was shot for a future cover but wouldn’t confirm which one.
GRAZIA’S NEW GUY: Bauer Media is angling for a slice of the international men’s wear business with a pilot magazine known as Project Rex. The company, which publishes U.K. Grazia under license from Italy’s Mondadori, plans to unveil the news and style title, which is aimed at men in their 30s, on Oct. 26. Jane Bruton, editor of Grazia, which has a weekly circulation of 228,770, is the editorial director, and Andrew Pemberton, the former editor of magazines Spin and Blender, is the editor. Advertisers in the 60-page pilot include BMW, Moschino, Harrods, Calvin Klein, Tag Heuer and Galliano. The magazine, which is launching as Britain’s once-popular, down market “lads’ mags” are watching their appeal and circulation numbers shrivel, will have its own Web site, blog, newsletter and Facebook page. “It’s ambitious — and that’s why we are testing it,” said publisher Ella Dolphin. Paul Keenan, chief executive officer of Bauer Media, said the company was looking to create a new brand “with a strong magazine at its core.” The pilot coincides with the upcoming launch of the men’s wear division of Cocosa, the invitation-only discounted designer goods e-commerce site, which Bauer owns. The pilot’s print run will be more than 500,000, and the magazine will be distributed along with selected British newspapers, Bauer titles including Grazia and Golf World, at stores such as Topman and Reiss, and on the streets in cities around the U.K. Bauer is looking to launch Project Rex properly in 2011, and the Cocosa men’s launch is slated for Nov. 8.
