Laurent Joffrin Named Libération Editor

It is his fourth round at the French daily newspaper.

TAKE FOUR: More changes are afoot on the French press scene. After Le Nouvel Observateur changed hands and Le Monde tapped a new managing director — all within the past month — beleaguered daily newspaper Libération on Thursday named a new editor, Laurent Joffrin. The newspaper announced the news on its Web site, saying the 61-year-old was back for his fourth time.

“Each time I come back when there is a crisis,” he is quoted as saying.

On Thursday, Libération’s management also presented a bailout package of 18 million euros, or $24.4 million, to bolster the ailing paper.
