Forget the September issue. For Stephen Drucker’s Town & Country, the biggest fireworks are coming in March. As WWD reported, Sarajane Hoare will cover the collections and direct fashion coverage for the issue; and now advertising and branding guru David Lipman and his firm have been tapped to do creative and design direction. “It all started with a conversation with Sarajane at the shows,” Lipman said. “Next thing I knew, I was talking to [Hearst president] David Carey and then meeting with Stephen. We started talking over dinner one night at 7:30 and didn’t leave until 12:30 — and that was just drinking Diet Coke.” Lipman has been poring over issues from the 1960s and 1970s to get inspiration. “There is a tremendous need for a magazine that speaks to the luxury world and talks to women about how she lives today,” he said. In terms of design, Lipman said everything is on the table, including a possible logo change. “My first phase will be to get the paper version of the magazine right,” he said. “And then, I will focus on the digital phase — how it looks on the [smart] phone, the iPad.”
