GOING HOME: Michael Boodro is back at Elle Decor as executive editor, coming full circle after launching the now-defunct Culture & Travel and editing Martha Stewart Living for two years. Mitchell Owens, the outgoing executive editor, has been named editor at large, a job the company is tieing into the new Luxury Design Group, entailing both feature writing for the magazine and multiplatform content.

FORBES LAYOFFS: During the past few days, approximately 40 employees have reportedly been let go across all areas of Forbes, including managing editor Stewart Pinkerton. “It is no secret that the economy is in a deep contraction and the media business in particular has been especially hard hit,” said Steve Forbes, chairman and chief executive officer, in an internal memo. “While doing better than our peers, our business has been adversely affected.” As a result, even those still employed are being squeezed: The memo went on to say the company is suspending 401(k) matching contributions and making salary cuts that will impact anyone earning more than $100,000, amounting to 10 percent of the increment above that level. In addition, employees will be required to take a weeklong furlough with no pay.— Amy Wicks
NEWSSTAND LANDING: In what will be a first for the in-flight magazine category, Delta Air Lines will soon sell its magazine, Sky, on newsstands. About 15,000 copies will be available on more than 2,500 newsstands later this month, including Barnes & Noble and Borders, at a cost of $3.99 an issue. As for the reasoning behind selling on newsstands, a spokeswoman said since the magazine will cover lifestyle, travel and business, Delta believes it will be something people will want to access in the months they aren’t traveling. Of course, given the recession, more and more folks aren’t taking to the friendly skies at all. The launch issue has Heidi Klum on the cover with a total of 132 pages, including 40 ad pages, 61 edit pages and 31 Delta information pages.
