OLD RELIABLE: The First Lady clearly loves a hot pink sheath. She’s wearing one from her closet (by Diane von Furstenberg, WWD has learned) on the cover of Condé Nast Traveler’s May issue, out Wednesday. But this is not the first time Michelle Obama has covered a magazine in arm-bearing fuchsia. She wore an nearly identical frock by Jason Wu for her March 2009 Vogue cover. And, back in October 2008, Obama was on the cover of More magazine wearing, yes, a bright pink sleeveless dress by Chicago designer (and early First Lady favorite) Maria Pinto. (Interestingly, for the April 2009 cover of O, The Oprah Magazine, Obama went with an orange Michael Kors dress and a yellow cardigan. Oprah Winfrey, on the other hand, wore bright pink.) Obama is doing double duty in May, also appearing on the cover of Good Housekeeping, though in a turquoise dress (with sleeves).

DALEY’S NEW GIG, O’REGAN DEPARTS: Billy Daley, former vice president of global communications at Michael Kors, has resurfaced. Daley has been named to the new post of worldwide director of public relations, events and communications at Bottega Veneta, according to sources. He reports to Lisa Pomerantz, worldwide communications director. Daley, who couldn’t be reached for comment, is based at Bottega Veneta’s New York office. According to insiders, the communications office is being restructured, and some additional posts will be filled within the next few weeks. Daley, who was with Michael Kors for four years, previously spent six and a half years at KCD as publicity director.
Meanwhile, Paul O’Regan has stepped down as executive vice president of global communications for Oscar de la Renta. His successor has yet to be named. O’Regan plans to pursue other opportunities in the fashion industry.

PICTURE THIS: Stella McCartney used a photograph taken by her late mother, Linda, for a T-shirt in her pre-fall collection. Also this fall, publishing house Taschen will be bringing out “A Retrospective of Linda McCartney’s Life and Photography,” charting her career as a photographer in the swinging Sixties to more personal family snapshots. The images have been selected in collaboration with Sir Paul McCartney and their children from an archive of some 200,000 photos. The 288-page hardcover book will include contributions from Annie Leibovitz and Martin Harrison. A limited-edition of 750 copies signed and numbered by Paul McCartney will also be available, as well as a two art editions of 125 copies with a photographic print. Prices have yet to be fixed.
