Michelle Myers has been appointed vice president and publisher of Lucky magazine, effective next week. Myers comes to the Condé Nast shopping title from Time Inc.’s People StyleWatch, where she was the founding publisher. At Lucky, Myers succeeds Gina Sanders, who last month was tapped by Condé Nast president and chief executive Charles Townsend to head up the Fairchild Fashion Group (which publishes WWD).
Townsend said Myers “has had a remarkably successful career and is well respected within the industry and Condé Nast,” adding, “We know she will bring her energy and excitement to the Lucky brand and we are pleased to welcome her back to the company.” Myers was associate publisher of Allure from 2000 to 2004, and then the publisher of Star magazine prior to joining StyleWatch in 2007.

“Lucky is really an innovator in the marketplace,” said Myers, “and I’m looking forward to continuing the excellent job that they have been doing.”
Myers has her work cut out for her at Lucky, where ad pages were down 26.8 percent, to 1,241 ad pages, in 2009 versus 2008. Meanwhile, People StyleWatch, a smaller book by comparison (with a total circulation of 802,275 compared with Lucky’s nearly 1.3 million) fared better, posting an ad page increase of 24.4 percent, to 629 ad pages, for 2009, according to Publishers Information Bureau.
Myers was upbeat regarding Lucky’s rough year, pointing to the title’s “incredible” first quarter of 2010, which saw a 17 percent increase in ad pages, according to Media Industry Newsletter. “The staff has done an incredible job across the board,” she noted.
According to a Time Inc. spokeswoman, Paul Caine, president and group publisher of Time Inc. Style and Entertainment group, will name a new StyleWatch publisher shortly. And there might be more positions to fill in the near future, as it is believed that Myers will bring over some colleagues from People StyleWatch to join her at Lucky.
