OVER THERE: Despite the imminent launch of firm competition in the form of The Big Black Book by Esquire in the U.K., GQ Style, which hits newsstands March 14, is in strong shape with several premium brands advertising for the first time in the spring-summer 2013 issue.
Joining a host of blue chip advertisers in GQ Style for the first time is Chanel, Rolex, Neil Barrett, Ports 1961, Dunhill, James Lock & Co. and Carhartt. While Giorgio Armani and Calvin Klein have lifted their investment from one double-page spread to two in this issue, joining Prada, which has had two for several seasons now. As a result, revenue is up 2.5 percent year on year.
The issue centers around the phrase “How TV Changed Your Life,” and features Charlie Hunnam of “Sons of Anarchy” as its cover star, photographed by Terry Richardson. Inside are “Game of Thrones” hero Kit Harington; Adam Driver from “Girls,” and Michael Shannon and Bobby Cannavale of “Boardwalk Empire.” There are also features on the new stars of rap and fashion stories featuring boxers and artists.
GQ Style is overseen by GQ editor Dylan Jones and produced by a separate editorial team to the monthly magazine, while The Big Black Book is produced by Esquire’s existing editorial team, overseen by editor Alex Bilmes.
