Tom Florio on Wednesday saw his duties as senior vice president and publishing director of Vogue expand when he was given oversight of Bon Appétit and Condé Nast Traveler as well. But Florio’s new assignment also ushered in a new vice president and publisher for Vogue: Susan Plagemann, who was plucked from the Hearst Tower to join Condé Nast. Plagemann, who will report to Florio, joins Vogue from Marie Claire, where she spent four years as publisher.
Florio served as publisher since 2002 and was given the senior vice president, publishing director title last year. At that time, he presided over Vogue, Teen Vogue, Men’s Vogue and Vogue Living. But Men’s Vogue and Vogue Living have since been shuttered — moving Bon Appétit and Condé Nast Traveler under his purview fills out his portfolio.

Prior to Marie Claire, Plagemann was the publisher of Lifetime, and associate publisher and later publisher of Cosmopolitan. She began her career at Condé Nast working for Mademoiselle. Though ad pages at Marie Claire leveled at 1,272 in 2008 from 1,481 in 2004, the magazine has managed shallower cuts in advertising during this year’s recession — pages have fallen 15 percent to 999 through November, according to Media Industry Newsletter, compared with Vogue’s 32 percent drop (1,807 pages), Elle’s 21 percent loss (1,841 pages) and InStyle’s 18 percent decline (2,048 pages).
