REMEMBERING THAT TIME…: Whether a good toast is anything like a good poem is something that could possibly be decided in the pages of the Paris Review — or at the very least over bellinis at the magazine’s annual Revel Monday evening. It was there that event co-chairs Ben Bradlee and Sally Quinn performed a lively round onstage, he all self-deprecation and joviality, and she full of practiced graciousness and boldface anecdotes. One recollection that amused and even shocked the crowd: Quinn’s tale of being in the Hamptons with Paris Review founder George Plimpton, “back when Ben and I first got together” and losing her now-husband in the dunes to Lauren Bacall for an hour. Her only solution, Quinn said, was to befriend Bacall and make her feel incredibly guilty for apparently cuckolding her. The ploy worked, according to Quinn, and they’re friends to this day.
Writers in attendance included Zadie Smith, Paul Auster, Colum McCann and Gary Shteyngart. The poet Paul Muldoon, who is also The New Yorker’s poetry editor, presented The Hadada Award — named after an African bird that Review co-founder and author Peter Matthiessen was compelled to imitate onstage — to poet John Ashbery, preceded by a lengthy discourse on Ashbery’s work that seemed intended to test just how serious donors were about their love for letters. Then the two settled in for a cozy onstage chat.

HUNG UP: It looks like Madonna, who’s featured in Louis Vuitton’s spring-summer fashion campaign, will do an encore for the French luxury giant. According to sources, the pop icon will reunite soon with photographer Steven Meisel for the shoot. Meanwhile, look out for another familiar and famous face in Balenciaga’s next campaign. Word has it actress Jennifer Connelly, who appeared in Balenciaga ads last spring, has been tapped again by designer Nicolas Ghesquière.

MODEL CITIZENS: Speaking of ad campaigns, for Yves Saint Laurent designer Stefano Pilati, using supermodels like Claudia Schiffer and Naomi Campbell for his recent fashion campaigns has turned out, well, super. Word has it photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin recently lensed YSL’s fall-winter campaign in New York and it stars Christy Turlington, along with Spanish male supermodel Andrés Velencoso.
ONE OF HER OWN: Kelly Cutrone has become a household name, thanks to numerous appearances on MTV shows such as “The Hills,” and now she’s scored a reality show of her own. Bravo will begin shooting “Kell on Earth” in August; the show will follow Cutrone and her colleagues at People’s Revolution. “This will be about our lives and our clients,” said Cutrone, who said shooting should wrap up around the end of November. “It’s a way to bypass editors and buyers and go directly to the viewers at home.” The show could air as early as January 2010, although a Bravo spokeswoman said a premiere date has not been decided.

WEDDING DAY: The Wednesday edition of “The Martha Stewart Show” was taken over by brides-to-be from all over the country, with all 160 audience members donning bridal veils. Vera Wang stopped by to show her new collection, inspired by ball gowns, while Frédéric Fekkai talked trends in hair styling and David Monn provided ideas for decorating on a budget. Wang advised brides-to-be to select a gown a mere two to three months before the big day — a short time frame that surprised Darcy Miller, editorial director of weddings at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, whom Stewart then jokingly referred to as “Bridezilla.”
And Stewart and Miller didn’t miss any opportunity during the show to flex their muscles in cross-promotion, repeatedly telling viewers to visit the company’s Web site and also pick up a copy of the latest issue of Martha Stewart Weddings.
COMMERCIAL HIT: Broadway is just one of the many New York icons that inspire Donna Karan for DKNY, but over the next few weeks, the Great White Way will be particularly relevant for the brand. DKNY dressed all the actors in the television commercial of Neil LaBute’s Broadway debut “Reasons To Be Pretty.” Marking the first time DKNY collaborated on a commercial, the ad will run during several network hit shows through May 10, including “Make Me a Supermodel” and “Millionaire Matchmaker” on Bravo; “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and “The Colbert Report” on Comedy Central; “Anderson Cooper 360” on CNN, and “The Rachel Maddow Show” and “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” on MSNBC. Networks like NY1, Food Network, TBS and AMC will also air the commercial.
Elsewhere, DKNY will do a shout-out to the play at its Madison Avenue store. As part of its “DKNY Loves Summer in the City”-themed windows, one display, titled “DKNY Loves Broadway,” will note the play as its Broadway show of choice.
