SINGER’S RETURN: Those wondering when and where Sally Singer would resurface got the answer Thursday, and it’s a place she knows well — Vogue. Editor in chief Anna Wintour is welcoming Singer back into the Vogue family as creative director, digital. She starts in the newly created position on Oct. 29, and will again report to Wintour.
Singer spent 11 years at the magazine, initially joining in 1999 as fashion news director and eventually overseeing both fashion news coverage and feature stories as fashion-features news director. Singer’s two-year stint as editor in chief of T: The New York Times Style Magazine that followed generated much news, mostly because her hyper-intellectual, downtown editorial direction failed to generate meaningful interest from advertisers — much to the chagrin of her bosses at the Gray Lady. She left the Times in late August.
Before her first stint at Vogue, Singer was fashion director for New York magazine after a brief period at Elle. She also worked at British Vogue and the London Review of Books.
In her new role at Vogue, Singer is expected to exclusively focus on Vogue.com. She will work closely with Caroline Palmer, the editor of Vogue.com, who also reports to Wintour.
