SKATING ALONG: A new photo book by Moncler art director Francesco Ragazzi shines the spotlight on the Los Angeles skateboarding scene, its culture and fashion. In “Palm Angels,” Ragazzi’s images capture ace skaters in Venice Beach and Manhattan Beach. Pharrell Williams, who is known to the skate community as Skateboard P and who has been instrumental in popularizing the skate look, penned the introduction.
“It was one picture I took one summer that made me go back to Los Angeles over and over again. It was a vision in my mind. Blonde hair floating in the air, rays of light that capture bodies fighting over gravity,” said Ragazzi. “For some religions, this is the portrayal of the angels. For me, it was a beginning.”

Published by Rizzoli, the hardcover “Palm Angels” will become globally available Sept. 16. Ragazzi will also collaborate with eyewear brand Mykita and copies of the book will be distributed with a limited edition of eyewear.
An event will be held on Sept. 20 at the Galleria Cardi in Milan during Milan Fashion Week in collaboration with GQ Italia with Williams in attendance. The images of the book are part of an exhibition dedicated to “Palm Angels” staged at the Colette boutique in Paris until Oct. 4 and a book signing is to take place on Sept. 27 at the store.
