SNAP SHOT: New Exposure, a photography competition sponsored by Bottega Veneta and Vogue magazine, is going into round two. Starting today, photographers worldwide who have previously not been under contract anywhere can find out more about the project at bottegaveneta.com and submit portfolios via vogue.com/promotions. Much like the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, the talent contest aims to help young photographers break into the business. New Exposure grew out of Bottega Veneta creative director Tomas Maier’s own interest in photography.
“At Bottega Veneta, we have collaborated with amazing photographers over the years to create advertising campaigns that effectively merge the vision I have for the collection with the work of the photographer,” he said. Maier is part of the jury that also includes Vogue photography director Ivan Shaw; Linda Evangelista; curator Andrew Bolton of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute; photographers Craig McDean and Collier Schorr; stylist Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele; makeup artist Pat McGrath and hair stylist Guido Palau; creative director Doug Lloyd; gallerist Yossi Milo, and Art+Commerce founding partner Jimmy Moffat. They will review portfolios and pick 10 finalists, who will work on a final project. The winner, to be unveiled during New York Fashion Week in September, will take home a $10,000 cash prize, as well as a year-long mentorship with Art+Commerce and another one with Vogue’s Shaw. Bottega Veneta will also tap the winning photographer to shoot one of its special projects.
