On Monday night, American Media chief executive officer David Pecker dismissed Candace Trunzo, the editor in chief of Star since 2007. Former National Enquirer editor David Perel, who has been running AMI’s RadarOnline.com, will take over.
Pecker wants Star to be increasingly anticelebrity and mean, according to one source close to the company. “All staff who are reputable or proper have left. Staff are really worried,” wrote the source in an e-mail. “They don’t want to work somewhere so negative.” There were cuts and reorganization at AMI earlier this year following the company’s Chapter 11 filing.
In a profile of Pecker in January, Trunzo described AMI’s ceo. “He’s very accessible, and if you want a decision from him, he will make it very quickly,” she said. “He’s tough, but he’s totally loyal.” One employee who answered the phone at Star earlier this morning said, “Candace is no longer with the company.”
Jose Lambiet has joined AMI from the Palm Beach Post to oversee RadarOnline.com as executive editor, the company announced in a press release this afternoon.
