SWITCHING PERSONALITIES: There is only one man who could talk Amanda Harlech and Daphne Guinness into swapping personalities — and hair colors: Karl Lagerfeld. The multitasking designer shot the duo for the new issue of V — surprising, since it was the first time he ever photographed Guinness, his longtime friend and client. As Lagerfeld snapped away in his studio in Paris’ 7th arrondissement, writer Derek Blasberg observed: “The typically bold Amanda, now posing as Daphne in front of Lagerfeld’s lens, appeared timid, her movements angular. The often-shy Daphne became bolder and more fluid.” Harlech added, “When I walked out on set with my blonde hairpieces, Karl burst out laughing and said I looked like a hausfrau. I won’t be doing it again, but secretly I did love the allure of Daphne’s blondeness. It was like playing the princess role instead of always being the witch.”

SPEAKING OF KARL…: Ever felt like stepping into an ad? You can chez Fendi. The Italian luxury firm’s new boutique in Saint-Tropez boasts a transporting decor that echoes Karl Lagerfeld’s latest campaign, meant to evoke the studio of a Fauvist painter with its strong colors, antique furniture and brushes, pencils and canvases strewn about. The 550-square-foot unit, located on leafy Place des Lices, features a selection of furs, handbags, shoes and beachwear. It will launch a new decor next year. Lagerfeld again tapped model Anja Rubik for the fall campaign, which breaks in mid-July and is to be unveiled in its entirety during Fashion’s Night Out in September.

DOUBLE LAUNCH: Interview magazine is gearing up for its second European launch, in Germany, after its Moscow debut, slated for 2011. The German edition, to be based in Berlin, is expected to appear in early 2012. Aliona Doletskaya, the editor of Russian Vogue from its inception in 1997 through 2010, will be editor in chief of both editions.
The European Interview Publishing Group is a joint venture between Vladislav Doronin, founder and president of the Moscow Capital Group, and Bernd Runge, chief executive officer of leading auction house Phillips de Pury and former head of Condé Nast Germany. Runge will serve as publisher and executive chairman of the new enterprise. Further editions of Interview and related activities are planned in Europe, the company said.
The Berlin team will include Jörg Harlan Rohleder and Adriano Sack as joint executive editors. Jo-Ann Furniss, former editor in chief of Arena Homme Plus, will be international fashion director of both the Russian and German editions. Similarly, Tim McIntyre, previously art director of Interview U.S., will be international art director of the two titles.
