THEIR TURN: It’s almost here again — awards season for the media world. The nominations for the National Magazine Awards will be out the first week of April, and then the Pulitzers will be unveiled. First out of the gate are the awards from the Society of Publication Designers, the Oscars of magazine designers. Bloomberg Businessweek, which took the top prize last year, was edged out this time around by Bon Appetit, Fast Company, GQ and W, whose nominated creative and design directors, Alex Gonzalez and Anton Ioukhnovets, have left for Marie Claire and Bloomberg Pursuits, respectively. Johan Svensson, formerly of French Vogue, is the glossy’s new design director. For best cover, Thomas Alberty of New York magazine scored a nomination for the magazine’s much-lauded cover after Hurricane Sandy, which showed a powerless lower Manhattan and is going up against three covers by the New York Times Sunday Magazine, where creative is led by Arem Duplessis, and one by small design magazine Metropolis, whose art director is Rodrigo Sanchez.
