VIEWING VOGUE AGAIN: It won’t be on the big screen, but Vogue has scored another documentary: “The Editor’s Eye,” which will premiere on HBO in December to coincide with the release of a new book with the same title from Abrams. Word of the documentary first spread in September after a profile of Anna Wintour in Newsweek. The magazine suggested its focus would be on her. Instead, the new documentary, like the book, profiles several of Vogue’s fashion editors going back to the likes of Babs Simpson and Polly Mellen.
In the book, each of the editor’s portfolios is introduced by an essay by a noted Vogue contributor. Jonathan Van Meter, for instance, writes about a trip to China with current fashion director Tonne Goodman.
The film also goes behind the scenes of some well-known shoots using archival images and footage, as well as interviews with the editors, their subjects and designers. Several editors still on the masthead — Grace Coddington, Phyllis Posnick and Camilla Nickerson among them — are featured.
