NIGHT MUSINGS: Eight short films in a series called “La nuit de” (the night of, in English) are to air on France’s Canal+ television station and its Web site starting Monday through March 31. Sponsored by Yves Saint Laurent Beauté and directed by Fabien Constant (of “Mademoiselle C” fame), their theme is a riff on the label’s men’s scent La Nuit de l’Homme.
The black-and-white films, which run from approximately 2 minutes to 2-and-a-half minutes, are portraits of actors, musicians, authors and dancers who give a taste of what night means to them in terms of their creativity, work and Paris. Each clip was filmed during one night in the City of Light and features the likes of Pierre Niney, Pierre Perrier, Olivier Barthélémy, Simon Buret and Loris Gréaud.
“The ideas came from the boys,” said Constant. “It’s absolutely subjective.”
“For a luxury brand, it’s good to create a very inspirational universe that is a bit removed from products,” said Charlotte Franceries, managing director of Yves Saint Laurent Beauté France, part of L’Oréal. “The link with Saint Laurent is really the creation.”
