Natori to Launch Men’s Sleepwear

After 30 years of producing elegant lingerie and loungewear for women, Josie Cruz Natori will be launching a line of sleepwear and home wear for men.

NEW YORK — After 30 years of producing elegant lingerie and loungewear for women, Josie Cruz Natori will be launching a line of sleepwear and home wear for men this fall.

The 22-style line, shipping in September, features traditional shapes in luxury fabrics, such as sable plush pile robes, double-ply knit cotton pajamas and silk nightshirts. No boxers or T-shirts here.

“I love to see a man well dressed while relaxing at home. Many of my friends and customers have asked me to do men’s, and it just seemed like the right time,” Natori said.

Fans of Natori will recognize her signature in the new collection, from the chinoiserie jacquard on a pair of cotton pajamas to the relaxed mandarin collars. The line also offers contemporary cashmere, jersey knit pants and pullovers in gray and black.

“Most of the choices in men’s at-home apparel are extremely limited in that they are either very traditional or just very basic,” said Natori. “[The new collection] translates the richness and refinement found in my women’s collections into a more masculine sensibility.”

The Filipino designer has been in expansion mode of late. In fall 2006 her company launched Natori Home, a collection of Asian-inspired bed linens. In the meantime the women’s line has grown to 410 doors worldwide.

The men’s collection will be targeted to better department and specialty stores around the country, including Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. Retail prices range from $180 for cotton pajamas to $700 for a cashmere robe.
