NAME: Eponymous by Hvrminn
HISTORY: The first ready-to-wear collection by made-to-measure clothing brand Hvrminn, pronounced hur-minn, Eponymous by Hvrminn reinterprets American staples for the traditional gentleman. American designer Minn Hur studied at Parsons for fashion design, specializing in men’s tailoring, and also serves as creative director of the military-inspired outerwear brand Vietto NYC.
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: “I can never answer this question by pointing to a single source of inspiration; rather, the bundle of cultural and social perceptions, which I have gathered over time, all play an equal part in influencing my work. However, I am particularly fond of 20th-century America. It is representative of something that I admire,” Hur said.
KEY ITEMS: Shawl-collar peacoat and camel fishtail parka take a luxe spin on American workwear jackets.
PRICE POINTS: Overcoats for $760 to $820; shirts for $140; shoes for $350 to $390.
DISTRIBUTION: E-commerce site launching in July.
FUTURE COLLABORATION: “Although nothing is set in stone yet, we intend on collaborating with Rancourt & Co. Shoecrafters for the spring/summer 2015 collection,” Hur said.
KEY TAKEAWAY FOR THE SEASON: “My designs do not have any abstract intentions, and I don’t create anything that I would consider conceptual,” Hur said. “With that said, I design clothing that I would wear and to draw in people who are interested in the aesthetic that I represent. It would be counterproductive for me to produce pieces that I wouldn’t wear personally. I resist conforming to trends, so I am determined to continue creating what I like, and hope to attract those with similar taste: That is my goal with Eponymous.”
