MILAN — Takahiro Miyashita, the Japanese designer behind Number (N)ine, is to shutter the label after 12 years in business.

“When you’re finished changing, you’re finished,” Miyashita said, adding he would “surely reappear somewhere.”
The designer could not be reached for further comment.
A spokeswoman for the brand cited “personal,” not “economic,” reasons behind the decision.
Number (N)ine’s last collection for fall, shown on the Paris runways in January, will be produced and delivered to the label’s clients, which include retailers such as Barneys New York, Jeffrey and Atelier, as well as Maxfield in Los Angeles.
Number (N)ine’s stand-alone stores in Tokyo and New York will close their doors by yearend.
