MILAN — Ermenegildo Zegna is setting sail with Maserati.
The Italian fashion house is among the main sponsors of the VOR 70 Maserati, the racing yacht taking part in the 47th edition of the legendary Transpac Race, starting in Point Fermin, near Los Angeles, on July 13.
Guided by skipper Giovanni Soldini, the Maserati team, which will include Fiat Group’s president John Elkann, will wear pieces specifically designed by Zegna Sport.
“Ermenegildo Zegna and Maserati are both Italian brands with huge expansion potential in the world of exclusive luxury goods,” Elkann said. “It’s important for brands with a strong heritage and great ambition to band together to stay exclusive and keep innovating at the same time.”
“I think that this experience can give us feedback to improve our quality and our skills,” said Ermenegildo Zegna chief executive officer Gildo Zegna, who highlighted that for this collaboration the company focused on researching both natural and synthetic fabrics, which are all recycled or that can be recycled.
The high-tech collection includes sweaters, polos, T-shirts and a number of outerwear items made with Zegna’s special Techmerino, a natural wool fabric treated with a special finish to guarantee quick drying, a comfortable fit and breathability. Zegna Sport also created a wind stopping, waterproof bomber jacket in Microthene fabric, and technical cotton pants with cargo pockets, along with a Neoprene vest.
A capsule collection, inspired by the VOR 70 Maserati’s yacht crew uniforms, will be sold at select Zegna stores worldwide and online at zegna.com, starting next spring.
This collaboration between Ermenegildo Zegna and Maserati follows a previous agreement for cars signed by the two companies last year.
In 2014, Maserati will create 100 limited-edition Quattroporte cars customized with Zegna fabrics and will introduce a Zegna Kit available for its customers in 2015. In addition, in 2016, Maserati will launch a tailor-made service in collaboration with the fashion and textile house.
