Giorgio Armani is also hardly shy about defending the originality of his designs. On Monday, he took a swing at Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, accusing the designers of copying his quilted pants from fall 2008 and putting them on the Dolce & Gabbana runway Saturday for fall 2009.
“For now they copy, later on they will learn,” Armani said after his Emporio show on Sunday.
Dolce and Gabbana struck back, saying, “Stylistically speaking, the Armani style is not, and never has been, an inspiration source for us.
“We made our fortune by creating a Dolce & Gabbana style which is strongly tied to Sicily and its traditions, as well as to the world of tailoring: a style which is globally recognized,” the designers continued. “Surely we still have much to learn, but definitely not from him.”
