NEW YORK — Givenchy’s men’s lines have their first marquee designer since Ozwald Boateng, now that the house has expanded the role of artistic director Riccardo Tisci to include men’s rtw and accessories. The house had left the men’s lines in the hands of a nameless design team since early 2007, when it announced that Boateng, then creative director, had become a consultant.
Tisci’s first men’s wear collection will be presented for the spring 2009 season.
On Friday, the company announced that it had renewed Tisci’s contract and expanded his duties. The moves a clear affirmation of the work he has done with women’s rtw, haute couture and accessories, and helps ensure a measure of continuity at the storied French maison, which had previously struggled to find its creative footing since the 1995 retirement of founder Hubert de Givenchy.
During Tisci’s three years at Givenchy, his modern perspective helped Givenchy return to profitability. Looking ahead, the company has plans to roll out stores and sees expansion potential across all product categories and geographic regions.
Givenchy made a confident statement Wednesday, when it unveiled a Paris flagship store that houses all product lines together.
