Target is Targeted in Lawsuit

A case was filed against Target for not making its Website accessible to vision impaired people.

NEW YORK — A federal district court judge in a federal court in San Francisco on Oct. 2 gave class action status to plaintiffs in a lawsuit they filed against Target Corp.

According to legal documents, the case was filed against the retailer for not making its Website accessible to vision impaired people.

The initial lawsuit was filed by the National Federation of the Blind, the National Federation of the Blind of California and Bruce Sexton. It alleged that Target.com lacks technological features that can read navigation links aloud, allowing a blind user of the Website to navigate using a keyboard instead of a mouse.

The complaint was originally filed in the Superior Court of California in February 2006 but was moved to the federal court in March 2006.

Target could not be reached for comment.
