Stan Williams has resigned as fashion and grooming director of Maxim magazine.
Williams, who has been with the laddie title for nine years, said he has signed a deal with Clarkson Potter to pen a vintage decorating book.
“It will be a higher-end, soft-cover book,” he said Friday. “It’s going to be beautiful.
“I’ve been here for a long time now and this is just something that I need to do,” he added.
He said that due to the demands of the job, it took him 2 ½ years to prepare the proposal and sample chapter of the book. But upon submission, Clarkson Potter gave him the green light. “They only accepted 40 books this year,” he said.
Williams’ last day with Maxim will be May 25. The magazine’s fashion department also includes Bonnie Friedman, fashion editor.
Maxim, which is owned by Dennis Publishing, is currently on the sales block, along with Stuff and Blender. The company reportedly received three or four offers in the second round of bidding last month, mostly from private equity firms. The bids are believed to be in the range of $200 million to $220 million, shy of the $250 million-plus that Felix Dennis is said to be seeking.
