The roar of some of the world’s most coveted sports cars is set to fill the central hall of Paris’ Musée des Arts Décoratifs—“much like chamber music,” says Rodolphe Rapetti, who curated the upcoming show, “The Art of the Automobile: Masterpieces of the Ralph Lauren Collection.” Seventeen vintage vehicles—including a rare Bugatti 57 SC Atlantic Coupé, from 1938—are being flown over for the exhibit, which will run from April 28 to Aug. 28.

With this exhibit, Rapetti hopes to convey not just Lauren’s taste, but also the evolution of the sports car. The show will start with “a monster of the Twenties”—a 1929 Bentley Blower, the car Ian Fleming chose for 007 in his early James Bond novels—and will pick up speed from there.
