ATLANTA — William J. Colombo has been named vice-chairman of Dick’s Sporting Goods, Inc., effective Feb. 2, the end of Dick’s fiscal year.

He will step down from his current role as president and COO. Those responsibilities will be taken over by Joseph M. Schmidt, executive vice-president of operations, Timothy E. Kullman, executive vice-president of finance, administration and CFO, and by Edward W. Stack, chairman and CEO. Colombo joined Dick’s in 1988 and became executive vice-president and COO in 1995. He also served as president of dsports.com LLC, Dick’s internet commerce subsidiary from late 1998 to 2001, and was named president of Dick’s in 2002.

“Under Bill’s guidance, we’ve set ourselves apart in the sporting goods marketplace in many areas, including marketing, store operations, information technology, logistics, among others,” said Stack. “We look forward to his continued contributions and influence in the strategic development of Dick’s Sporting Goods as vice-chairman of our board.”
