Earnest Sewn Signs Second L.A. Lease

Earnest Sewn has signed a 10-year lease for its second L.A. store.

NEW YORK — Earnest Sewn has signed a 10-year lease for its second L.A. store, which will open in June at 7501 Beverly Boulevard in a freestanding building now occupied by the 43-year-old Town Tire auto repair garage. The 6,000-square-foot space sits on a lot with its own 20 parking spaces—a highly desirable feature in L.A.—and will become the jeans maker’s largest flagship store.

“This is such an amazing space and we have a totally unique concept for it,” said Scott Morrison, president of Earnest Sewn, which rang up total sales of about $20 million last year. “There isn’t a lot of retail in the neighborhood and we want this flagship to become a destination spot, similar to our Meatpacking District store in New York.”

The new store will feature a unique interior, with a group of in-store shops made to resemble a pre–World War I streetscape. There will be individual shops dedicated to denim, dry goods, kids, books, Sol Moscot eyewear, a rotating roster of third-party brands, and several other product categories.

Additionally, an 800-square-foot Babycakes NYC bakery will adjoin the store with its own entrance and sit-down patio, offering customers kosher and vegan treats.

Earnest Sewn plans to preserve design elements of the historic garage, including the iconic tire sign atop the building. The roll-up garage doors will be replaced with glass versions.

Morrison expects the new store to ring up sales in excess of the $3 million its Meatpacking District unit posted last year.

Earnest Sewn also has a signed lease for another L.A. store in the Malibu Country Mart, as reported, which is now scheduled to open in September. A second New York store opened last fall in the Lower East Side. The company’s fifth store may be in London’s trendy Shoreditch area, where Morrison has already scouted out a potential location.
