Loehmann’s, the national off-price retailer, announced today plans to open its first stand-alone men’s store.
The Bronx, N.Y.-based retailer will open an 18,000-square-foot single-level store in Los Angeles, at the newly renovated Beverly Connection complex on La Cienega Boulevard. The store is set to bow on March 4.
In a statement, Mara Kelly, vice-president of advertising and marketing, said, “This is an exciting ‘first’ for us. We wanted to be able to expand our men’s offerings, so the Beverly Connection space was the perfect solution.” The men’s offerings in the existing Loehmann’s Beverly Hills store will be rolled into the new location, and the vacated floor space will create more room for women’s merchandise, the release stated.
All other stores in Los Angeles County, including doors in Burbank, Long Beach, Pasadena, Reseda and Torrance, will continue to operate their men’s departments.
The company, owned since 2006 by Istithmar PJSC, the investment arm of the government of the United Arab Emirates, is known as a New York institution that inspires frenzies over women’s wear, and has carried men’s wear since 1997. According to its Web site, over 50 of its 55-plus stores carry men’s wear. Like its women’s selection, men’s is also sold at prices 30 to 65 percent lower than department and specialty stores.
Fred Forcellati, vice-president of advertising and creative, has said that the company is in “expansion mode,” since being acquired by Istithmar, which said it would essentially double the size of the business over the next several years.
