MILAN — Preppy men’s and women’s brand McGregor is rolling out four new stores in Italy to reach a total of 12 by the end of the year. The first of these opened in Treviso over the weekend. The others will be in Bolzano, Trieste and Sassari.
Founded in New York in the Twenties by the Scottish David Doniger, who helped expand the use of tartan in the U.S., the brand is now controlled by the Dutch firm McGregor Fashion Group.
The company has been investing in sports sponsorships, supporting Formula One Dutch driver Giedo van der Garde and the Caterham team. McGregor is a partner in the exclusive Automobile Club de Monaco with a dedicated collection, and is an official partner in the Formula One Team Williams clothing collection. McGregor is also the sportswear supplier of the Real Club de Polo in Barcelona, the Euro Hockey League and the Amsterdam Hockey and Bandy Club.
The brand is available in 38 countries around the world at 3,000 points of sale, including department stores such as Galeries Lafayette, Printemps, El Corte Inglés, Coin and House of Fraser, and it counts 200 flagships of which 150 are directly owned. As of April 20, revenues totaled 250 million euros, or $331.4 million at current exchange.
