Thorne to Head Merchandising for Jos. A. Bank

James E. Thorne has been promoted to senior vice-president of merchandising for Jos. A. Bank Clothiers, Inc.

NEW YORK — James E. Thorne has been promoted to senior vice-president of merchandising for Jos. A. Bank Clothiers, Inc.

He succeeds R. Neal Black, who last week was named CEO of the Hampstead, Md.-based specialty store chain.

Thorne, who was formerly vice-president of planning and allocation, will be responsible for all product design, manufacturing, planning and allocation.

Robert R. Sears will succeed Thorne as vice-president of planning and allocation.

Thorne, 48, joined Jos. A. Bank in 1986 and has held a variety of merchandising posts. Sears, 51, has been with the retailer since January. Prior to that, he was senior vice-president/GMM at Bon-Ton Department Stores and Saks Department Store Group.

“Jim and Bob are seasoned and trusted executives whose work will be integral to the continued growth of the company,” Black said in a statement. “I am pleased to be able to fill two such important positions through internal promotions, a testament to the strength of the merchandising department here at Jos. A. Bank.”

As reported, on Dec. 21, current CEO Robert Wildrick, will become chairman of the board and Black will become CEO.
