Zellers Names CEO

Mark Foote has been named president and CEO of Zellers, the discount division of Hudson’s Bay Co.

TORONTO — Mark Foote has been named president and CEO of Zellers, the discount division of Hudson’s Bay Co. He will report to Jeffrey Sherman, CEO of Hudson’s Bay.

Foote, who will start in mid-August, was most recently president and chief merchandising officer of Loblaw Cos., where he oversaw procurement and merchandising functions for all lines of business, marketing, supply chain and information technology.

Before that, Foote was with Canadian Tire Corp. for more than 20 years, including five years as president of the company’s retail division.

Two weeks ago, Hudson’s Bay was purchased by NRDC Realty, which also owns Lord & Taylor. The company is still searching for an executive to run its department store division, The Bay.

“Mark’s DNA is coded with tremendous Canadian retail experience,” said Sherman. “He is a seasoned merchant who has helped to grow some of Canada’s most beloved retail formats. Mark has first-hand experience working in almost every role within a large-scale retail organization. That depth of knowledge will be an asset to HBC as we move forward with our plan to drive top-line growth at Zellers and re-energize the brand.”
