Icebreaker Names New CEO

Rob Fyfe has been named chief executive officer of Icebreaker, the New Zealand outdoor merino wool brand, effective June 2.

Rob Fyfe has been named chief executive officer of Icebreaker, the New Zealand outdoor merino wool brand, effective June 2.

He succeeds company founder Jeremy Moon, who will transition into the role of executive chairman and creative director. For the past nine months, Fyfe has worked alongside Moon as executive chairman for the brand. He has been on the board since 2012.

Moon said Fyfe’s “proven strengths as a game-changing ceo will align perfectly with the global goals we’ve set forth as we move toward record growth in future years in an increasingly competitive landscape. It was a big decision for me to hand over our business to another ceo, but I’ve seen Rob’s passion for what we are building at Icebreaker and I really admire his skills, especially with people. In the end, it was easy for me to put my total trust in Rob.”

Most recently, Fyfe was ceo of Air New Zealand, where he is credited with turning around the airline’s strategy and culture while maintaining profitability during economic downturns.

Icebreaker, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2015, operates 19 retail stores and has more than 4,000 wholesale clients. Sales are expected to exceed $200 million in 2014, with 80 percent of the business in Europe and North America.
