Spencer’s Retail Ltd. plans to initially open four branded stores in March that will sell the young men’s Ecko Unltd. and junior Ecko Red labels. Another 20 stores are planned to bow in key Indian cities over the next 24 months. Those later stores will include units for the contemporary Marc Ecko Cut & Sew brand, slated for spring 2011.
“India is certainly one of the most exciting places in the world — the exhilarating energy of the people of India, with their eagerness to be exposed to other cultures, is amongst the things that configures a society and is inspiring,” said Marc Ecko, chief creative officer at Marc Ecko Enterprises.
Last month, Iconix Brand Group acquired a 51 percent controlling interest in the Ecko portfolio of brands from company founders Ecko, Seth Gerszberg and Marci Tapper.
