Bloomingdale’s pumped up its fashion squad this week, naming Brooke Jaffe operating vice president of fashion direction for women’s ready-to-wear and Erica Russo fashion director of accessories.
Both are Bloomingdale’s insiders. “It is our focus to continue to grow and develop our executives to rise to positions within our organization of great leadership,” said Michael Gould, chairman and chief executive officer of Bloomingdale’s.
Jaffe’s responsibilities include determining trends and discovering emerging designers to help direct the store’s buying. Traveling around the world and attending the runway shows to find the latest in fashion are major components of her job. She succeeds Stephanie Solomon, who retired from Bloomingdale’s last June. Jaffe joined Bloomingdale’s in 2007 as fashion director for fashion accessories, handbags, shoes and jewelry. Previously, she was the accessories editor of InStyle magazine. She started her career as the assistant accessories editor at Vogue.
Russo, who succeeds Jaffe, began her career as a merchant intern with Bloomingdale’s during the summer of 1998 in women’s shoes and joined the executive development program in August 1999. She was promoted to buyer of women’s sleepwear, then daywear buyer, and later she became the buyer of women’s trend jewelry, before her latest promotion to the fashion office.
