Patrice Wagner Named Chairman of Le Bon Marché

Executive to succeed retiring chairman Philippe de Beauvoir at Paris department store.

PARIS — Patrice Wagner has been named chairman and chief executive officer of Le Bon Marché, the high-end Left Bank department store owned by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, effective Oct. 12.

Wagner, most recently general manager of Karstadt’s premium division, will succeed Philippe de Beauvoir, who will retire after more than 22 years at the helm of the landmark store.

Wagner’s résumé also includes stints at Berlin department store KaDeWe, and Galeries Lafayette in Germany. He will report to Toni Belloni, managing director of LVMH.

LVMH chairman and chief executive officer Bernard Arnault praised de Beauvoir’s track record.

“Thanks to his vision, his experience in selective retailing, his exacting professionalism and his creativity, he has overseen the transformation of Le Bon Marché into a unique concept store with strong cultural resonance, a distinctively innovative high-end department store which is recognized and admired around the world,” Arnault stated.

The store recently unveiled a revamped men’s wear department as part of its mission to position itself as a leading luxury shopping destination.

Wagner, during his 2002-to-2009 tenure as managing director of KaDeWe, continental Europe’s largest department store, completed an extensive renovation and full-scale trading-up of its assortment.

Under his aegis, the Berlin flagship of the Karstadt department store chain achieved premium status, successfully luring international luxury brands that had previously eschewed doing business in German department stores.

The store’s ground floor “luxury boulevard” of accessories includes Burberry, Bulgari, Chanel, Dior, Fendi, Gucci, and Tod’s shop-in-shops, while Armani Collezioni, Boss Black, Celine, DKNY, Escada, Polo Ralph Lauren and Versace, among others, joined the women’s wear lineup.

Wagner was also named to the new position of general manager of the Karstadt Premium division, and oversaw the roll out of the KaDeWe premium concept to two further Karstadt doors: Alsterhaus in Hamburg and Oberpollinger in Munich.

Prior to joining KaDeWe, Wagner was general manager of Galeries Lafayette in Berlin. An almost 20-year veteran of the German department store scene, he began his career in 1990 as general manager of the Karlsruhe branch of the Stuttgart-based Breuninger group.
