NEW YORK — Donna Karan is putting some Seoul into her retail network.
Capitalizing on the potential for luxury brands in South Korea, Karan will be opening her first Donna Karan New York collection flagship in Seoul on Tuesday. The 4,000-square-foot store, located in the Cheongdam luxury shopping district, is a partnership between Donna Karan International and SK Networks Company Ltd.

“Our Donna Karan business in South Korea has performed above expectations, consistently achieving the highest seasonal sell-throughs amongst our international Donna Karan partners,” DKI chairman and chief executive officer Mark Weber said. “In our experience, the Korean customer has a highly developed fashion sense and desire for sophisticated luxury. As such we do particularly well with our icons, runway looks, as well as dresses and suiting.”
DKI and SK Networks have been partners since 2005, and this will mark the 69th location opened as part of the agreement, including Donna Karan New York in-store shops and DKNY stores.
The new flagship was created by New York-based architectural firm Bonetti Kozerski Studio. Designed on two levels, features include textured and chiseled granite, bamboo plants and a 10-foot-high LED screen to stream brand-centric media, from marketing images to footage from Karan’s runway shows in New York. The store will offer the collection’s entire assortment including ready-to-wear, eveningwear, shoes and accessories.
“This first flagship store will further enhance our positioning in South Korea and increase the already high level of brand awareness we have in the market,” Weber said. “We plan to build on this exciting growth momentum with additional locations over the next few years.”
