Greenwich, Conn., now has its own Hermès boutique.

Hermès of Paris Inc., a subsidiary of Hermès International, unveiled its first store there at 289 Greenwich Avenue during a cocktail party Friday night.
Located in what used to house Best & Co., the new store is the luxury label’s 346th boutique worldwide, its 27th in the U. S. and the first in Connecticut. Hermès is no longer sold at Richard’s in Greenwich, but it does have a concept shop at Mitchell’s in nearby Westport. Greenwich Avenue is downtown’s tony main thoroughfare, running between U.S. Route 1 and the New Haven Line railroad tracks.
Nearly 3,000 square feet of the 5,250-square-foot space will be used for retail, with the remaining area designated for offices. RDAI, the Parisian architectural agency founded by the late Rena Dumas, designed the store’s interior. Built in 1906, the Greek Revival building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The boutique showcases men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, fine leather goods, fine jewelry, watches, shoes, fashion accessories, silk scarves, men’s ties, swimwear, luggage, professional equestrian goods, home furnishings, furniture, porcelain, silver, crystal and fragrances.
In sync with Hermès’ 2013 theme, the Spanish artist Pamen Pereira has created a window installation highlighting “The Sporting Life.” Her conceptual illustration of iconic Hermès objects is meant to appeal to the Greenwich community’s strong equestrian culture. The new Hermès Cavale saddle and the Jumping ladies’ boot are spotlighted in the store windows. Pereira also created “The Gift of Time” installations for the luxe brand’s stores in Taiwan and Barcelona.
In another gesture meant to highlight artistry, after Friday night’s cocktail party, 100 guests attended a private dinner in a glass tent that floral designer Raul Avila designed to look like an enchanted forest.
