MILAN — Prada will open a store in the Miami Design District on Dec. 6, in conjunction with the Art Basel Miami fair.

The one-story unit, designed by the brand’s go-to architect Roberto Baciocchi, covers 3,890 square feet and carries women’s ready-to-wear, leather goods, accessories and footwear.
Stefano Cantino, the group’s communications and external relations director, said the Miami store will be the brand’s 33rd in the U.S. The group’s total retail network in America covers 44 stores, including 10 Miu Miu units and one Church’s.
Cantino said the opening “is in line with the group’s expansion strategy, as its goal is to strengthen its presence in mature markets, as well as in emerging ones.”
The company has been investing in its retail chain, which showed a 47 percent gain in the first half of the year, accounting for 80.7 percent of sales.
America, which includes Canada, Mexico and Brazil, showed a 31 percent spike in revenues in the first half, and accounted for 15 percent of total revenues for the group. In the six months ended July 31, Prada’s revenues gained 36 percent to 1.54 billion euros, or $1.99 billion, compared with 1.13 billion euros last year. Dollar figures are converted at average exchange rates for the periods to which they refer.
Cantino revealed that, in the first months of 2013, the company will open Prada stores at the Fashion Valley Mall in San Diego and at the Westfield Valley Fair Mall in San Jose, Calif., which will also house a new Miu Miu store.
The bright facade of the Miami store is enhanced by the reflections of transparent Perspex panels and the large glass windows, which define the building’s architecture.
The store features light carpeted floors and round cornered rooms. Features of the Baciocchi-designed stores include pale green curtains and crystal and steel displays. The furnishing is completed by green velvet “Clover Leaf” sofas, designed by Verner Panton and exclusively reproduced for Prada.
Located near the entrance, the footwear sector is marked by round crystal tables, while the area dedicated to accessories, eyewear and small leather goods is furnished with crystal and steel counters with colored displays.
As of July 31, the company had 414 directly operated stores worldwide, including 263 Prada boutiques, 102 Miu Miu units, 43 Church’s shops and six Car Shoe stores.
