NEW YORK — Tom Ford is spreading out on Madison Avenue.

The company has completed a multiphase renovation of its original New York flagship that began in January and expands its size from 8,680 square feet to more than 13,000 square feet. The increase comes from annexing space on the second floor that was previously occupied by neighbor Asprey.
Along with the extra space comes a new floor plan, with women’s wear occupying the entire first floor and all men’s wear now situated on the second floor. New furnishings, fixtures and decor were part of the flagship’s facelift.
Prior to the upgrades, men’s tailored clothing and women’s wear shared the ground floor, while men’s sportswear, accessories and shoes were on the smaller second floor.

The store’s foyer is now anchored by an artwork in the form of a gold desk and silver chair, constructed from foam, wood and resin by artist Christopher Schanck.
Women’s daywear is adjacent to the entryway, in a salon with a marble fireplace, lacquer walls and pale gray carpeting. A separate women’s eveningwear salon is outfitted with silver-gray sofas, Swedish armchairs and another fireplace, accented with antique bronze wall mirrors. Additional rooms on the ground floor house handbags, shoes, perfumes and cosmetics.
A Macassar ebony staircase leads to the men’s wear floor above, which includes distinct areas for tailored clothing, sportswear, shirting, luggage, fragrance and eyewear. A VIP salon houses a made-to-measure service.
The Madison Avenue flagship first opened as a men’s-only store in April 2007. Women’s wear was added to the store in March 2011.
There are currently 81 freestanding stores and shops-in-shop globally, operated by both Tom Ford and its local partners. That number is planned to grow to 99 by yearend.
