Amazon is getting behind the wearable technology category.

The e-tailer launched a Wearable Technology storefront Tuesday that sells fitness and wellness trackers, smart watches, health care devices and wearable cameras. Samsung and Fitbit were among the featured brands on the site upon its debut, and other brands for sale include Jawbone, GoPro, Polar, Garmin and Nike.
Following reports earlier this month that Nike would discontinue its FuelBand, some observers started to grow wary of the future of wearables as a category.
However, John Nemeth, director of wireless and mobile electronics at Amazon, called wearables a category seeing “rapid expansion” and hopes that a vast selection, competitive pricing and tools such as a “learning center” will help fuel growth for these devices. The Amazon store also contains product videos, buying guides and even an “Editor’s Corner” with reviews and industry news.
The e-tail giant, which released first-quarter earnings last week, saw sales for the quarter ended March 31 increase 23 percent to $19.74 billion — up from $16.07 billion.
