LONDON — Roland Mouret has teamed with Net-a-porter.com for another limited edition collection.

Today, the limited edition RM by Roland Mouret Rainbow Project, a line of seven minidresses in seven bright colors, will begin selling on the site, with immediate delivery.

The pieces, each of which comes in one or two colors, are made from stretch silk gazar and range in price from $1,495 for a cream crepe dress with a few nips and folds to $3,070 for a turquoise one with multiple drapes.

Mouret, who usually shies away from minidresses, and Net-a-porter’s founder and chairman, Natalie Massenet, began talking about the collection in July, and two of the dresses already appeared on his spring runway in Paris.

“I told Roland — who’s well-known for his body-contouring dresses — that we have so many clients who would love to show their legs. And he just went for it,” said Massenet.

She said the dresses can be worn now — with black tights — as well as in the spring, and that the great motivator behind the project was her clients’ hunger for freshness.

“The customer is excited by newness: She’s going onto the site two to three times a week to see what’s new. We get her message: Fashion’s five seasons are no longer addressing her needs,” Massenet said, adding she plans to continue offering flash capsule collections similar to this one.

Mouret, meanwhile, said his approach to this collection was simple. “I wanted to do something really fresh with bright colors for cruise. This collection is for young girls. It’s easy to wear and to take from daytime into cocktail hour,” he said.

The designer also has created a body-sculpting foundation garment made from his structured power mesh fabric, which first appeared in the 2005 Galaxy dress, that retails for $475 and comes in nude.

“It’s a very sexy take on the undergarment, and I took a very sensual approach: You’ll never look like you’re struggling into and out of it,” said Mouret. The designer will mark the launch of the collection with a dinner at Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles on Dec. 10.
