PARIS — Redcats, the mail-order division of PPR, said Tuesday it has bought 100 percent of start-up Castaluna.com, an online seller of plus-size clothing and accessories, for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition reinforces Redcats’ leadership in the plus-size fashion segment on the Internet and will allow Castaluna, launched in October 2009, to accelerate its development in France and abroad, the group said in a statement.
“This young start-up will remain independent within the group,” it added.
Redcats said plus-size fashion accounted for more than one billion euros, or $1.39 billion, of sales in the United States and Europe, out of total sales of 3.38 billion euros in 2009, or $4.7 billion at average exchange rates.
The group runs more than 60 e-commerce sites, including leading U.S. plus-size retailer OneStopPlus.com, which was recently launched in Europe. Web sales accounted for 47 percent of overall turnover at Redcats last year.
