NRF Steps Up Lobbying Efforts

The organization wants to help get the corporate tax code reformed, open up new markets for American goods, and “fix the broken” immigration and visa system.

The National Retail Federation is stepping up its Washington lobbying efforts to help get the corporate tax code reformed, open up new markets for American goods, and “fix the broken” immigration and visa system.

“We need an immigration system and visa system to attract the brightest and most skilled workers from around the world,” Matt Shay, NRF’s president and chief executive officer, said Monday at the NRF annual convention and expo at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York. NRF has also been pushing for visa reform to stimulate greater tourism, particularly from China, which would support retail sales, and cut the waiting times for interviews to obtain visas.

Shay also said the government should pursue bilateral partnerships with other countries, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and pointed out that the U.S. has the world’s highest corporate tax rate, at 35 percent and that the rate needs to be streamlined.
