Fast Retailing Co. said Monday that Uniqlo’s same-store sales in July rose 11.9 percent during Japan’s sweltering summer.
“July sales of summer wear such as our unique perspiration-absorbing DRY garments and camisole tops were strong as the month proved hotter and [drier] than last year,” the company said in a statement.
The company’s monthly sales update refers only to Uniqlo’s stores in Japan and excludes results from its stores elsewhere.
Weather patterns tend to influence the retailer’s performance. Uniqlo’s same-store sales in June were basically flat, growing just 0.7 percent, as the onset of an earlier-then-expected rainy season dampened customer demand.
